What this site is
abettertictactoe.com is a free browser game. It runs entirely in your browser, and there is no login, no profile, and no database behind it. This policy explains the small amount of information the game handles and the third-party services it relies on.
The name you enter
Before a match starts, the game asks for a name to display on the scoreboard. That name is held in your browser's memory for the length of your visit and is never sent to us or stored anywhere. Refreshing or closing the page erases it. The same goes for scores and match settings — nothing carries over between visits.
Private matches
Private mode connects two players directly, device to device, using WebRTC. Two things follow from that:
- Your opponent sees the name you chose, along with your moves. Only pick a name you're comfortable sharing.
- Setting up a direct connection requires the two devices to exchange network addresses, including IP addresses. This is handled by the public PeerJS signalling service, which brokers the introduction. Once connected, game moves travel straight between the two players and do not pass through us.
Room codes are generated at random, exist only while the room is open, and are not recorded.
Other services this page loads
Loading the game pulls a few files from outside servers. Those servers necessarily see your IP address and basic browser information as part of delivering the files:
- Google Fonts — the Montserrat typeface. See Google's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare (cdnjs) — the PeerJS library used for private matches. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Vercel — the host serving this site. See Vercel's privacy policy.
